jw pty ltd is seeking a software developer to contribute to the development and enhancement of secure software solutions within our defence industry practice. this is a 12-month contract position based in melbourne with a hybrid working arrangement, requiring three days per week on-site and allowing up to two days per week to be worked from home. the successful candidate will design, develop, test and maintain software applications used within defence environments, collaborate with systems engineers and cyber security specialists, participate in code reviews, troubleshoot technical issues, develop automated tests and contribute to technical documentation throughout the software development lifecycle. applicants should have at least 3 years of professional software development experience and strong programming skills in java, c#, python or c++, together with experience using git, rest apis, relational databases and modern software development practices. knowledge of ci/cd pipelines, automated testing, containerisation technologies such as docker, cloud platforms and agile development methodologies will be highly regarded. previous experience developing software for defence, government or other security-sensitive environments is desirable but not essential. a current australian government baseline security clearance is required for this position. the contract offers an indicative rate of $750–$900 per day plus superannuation, depending on experience and technical capability, with access to technical training and certification support.
